FEBRUARY 2019 – LESLY FREDERICKSON
Both my grandfather and mother where talented artists and I credit them with passing the art bug down to me. My earliest memory of painting is at around 6 years old when I was given a paint-by-number set which I thought was wonderful! After high school I received a degree in Fashion Design/Illustration and while I was raising my two sons, I did a lot of drawing and watercolor painting. When they went off to college, I also returned to school for a B.A. in Fine Art.
My favorite subjects to paint are faces, flowers and the Southwest. At least once a year I head out to my sister’s place in Abiquiu, New Mexico where we spend time painting at various outdoor locations. I’ve been able to sell my paintings through the Abiquiu Inn and I’ll be participating in the 26th Annual Abiquiu Studio Tour this October.
One of the things that convinced me I’d enjoy living in Sun City was the existence of this art club! I’m still impressed with all the creative people in a club that is “ALL ABOUT ART” and I’m happy to be serving as the club’s current Vice-President.

- As a very young child I was lucky enough to be given art lessons. I was always an enthusiastic artist, but as an adult single working mother I had no time for a hobby. At 72 I had the pleasure of meeting and taking lessons from a amazing colored pencil artist. Hooked again, I finally retired from many years in the medical field and have been totally enjoying drawing ever since.
My husband and I moved to SunCity Hilton Head in April of 2017 from Geneva, IL. We have been so happy with our move and I have found the Art Club and members to be amazing. I hope you enjoy my art work.
